Structural design events held at Yunnan's YNU

Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – recently hosted two key competition events in structural design, one at the national and the other at the provincial level.

The Yunnan leg of the 17th National University Student Structural Design Competition and the 14th Yunda Cup Yunnan Provincial University Student Structural Design Competition were held at YNU on July 13-15.

At the national event, a total of 57 teams from 19 universities – including YNU, Kunming University of Science and Technology and Yunnan Agricultural University – participated in the local leg, totaling over 400 students and teachers.

After three days of fierce competition in the local leg of the national competition, Dianchi College won the overall championship. Kunming University of Science and Technology City College, Kunming College, and Kunming University of Science and Technology won the first prize. Yunnan University, Baoshan University, and Yunnan Minzu University won the second prize.

The National University Student Structural Design Competition is one of the first national projects supported by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance.

It aims to cultivate students' innovation awareness and cooperation spirit – and to enhance their innovative design, practical skills and comprehensive qualities.

The competition is the highest level and largest student innovation competition in the field of civil engineering.
