YNU students explore earth sciences through field research

Updated: Jul 30, 2024

The School of Earth Sciences at Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – organized a joint research field trip for its 256 first-year undergraduate students from July 12 to 21.

The students are majoring in Geology, Geographical Science, Geographic Information Science, Geophysics and Atmospheric Science.

The implementation of the field trip was a practical exploration of the integrated education model of earth sciences – allowing students from various earth science majors to experience and appreciate the wonders of geoscience in nature together.

During the trip, teachers and students in the school were divided into two groups and eight teams, advancing the field research process in an orderly manner according to a pre-determined plan.

The teams followed a route crossing the Hengduan Mountains, covering the Kunming-Shilin-Lufeng-Yuxi-Dali-Tengchong regions.

More than 10 frontline industry experts from the management bureau of the Yunnan Provincial Geological Nature Reserve of China's Precambrian Era, the Yunnan Shilin World Geological Park and the Taihua Mountain National Benchmark Climate Station provided on-site guidance to the students.
