During the summer vacation, a team of 16 teachers and students from the School of Medicine at Yunnan University or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – carried out voluntary services in Lanping county in the region.
Supported by local officials in Lanping county, the team conducted activities such as free medical consultations, health popularization and public health research in multiple villages, communities and primary schools in Cuiping Street, Jinding Street and other towns.
The team also taught residents about managing common chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as the prevention and treatment of cataracts and tuberculosis, imparting methods for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The team conducted educational sessions on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and prevention methods for infectious diseases and drowning at Guanping Village Primary School.
Additionally, team members visited the Jinding Street Health Center and three village community health clinics to conduct research on the infrastructure, personnel structure, welfare subsidies and public health management at grassroots public health facilities – in order to provide real-world data support for future research.
