Yunnan University undertakes intl communication program

On Aug 10, the third Frontiers of International Communication Theory and Research Methods Facing South and Southeast Asia graduate summer training program opened at Yunnan University.

The event seeks to deepen the understanding of young teachers and scholars on the changes in international communication theory and practice, thereby supporting China's international communication efforts. It is jointly organized by the School of Journalism at Yunnan University, the School of Journalism and Communication at Communication University of China, and other education institutes.

The Aug 10 opening ceremony was attended by Professor Tang Niansheng, vice president of Yunnan University; Mi Bohua, former deputy editor-in-chief of People's Daily and former dean of the School of Journalism at Fudan University; Fang Chengyu, director of the Halliday Centre for Intelligent Applications of Language Studies at City University of Hong Kong; and Wei Lu, vice president of Communication University of Zhejiang, along with other prominent experts and scholars in the field of journalism and communication.

During the first day's forum, experts and scholars delivered insightful lectures on various topics. Mi discussed the process of Chinese modernization and the enhancement of national soft power, offering unique insights into Yunnan's distinct role in international communication.

Drawing on the context of the intelligent era, Wei analyzed the necessity and feasibility of constructing an autonomous knowledge system for Chinese communication studies. Using analysis of news discourse as a starting point, Fang unveiled the relationship between linguistic strategies in news writing and international communication.

Over the next nine days, 38 renowned experts and scholars from China and abroad will deliver lectures on cutting-edge theories and practical issues in international communication, aiming to enhance the interest and theoretical level of young scholars in this field.
