Updated: Aug 15, 2024

The local finals for the Yunnan Regional Selection Leg of the national China International College Students Innovation Competition (2024) were recently held at Yunnan Minzu University.

Two projects from Yunnan University, or YNU – based in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – scored well.

Two projects – Leader in Seismic Design for Buildings and Phage Formulation Empowering Rural Vitalization – won third prizes in the final round.

In addition, Yunnan University's projects garnered a raft of provincial awards during the Yunnan regional selection event – bringing in 29 gold medals, 31 silvers, 35 bronze medals and three Outstanding Innovation and Entrepreneurship Mentor Awards.

The selection event attracted the participation of 88 colleges across Yunnan province, with 55,400 projects submitted – setting a record for both the number of projects and participants.

Yunnan University is said to have placed great importance on the event, providing research guidance for the project teams.

On May 10, the university launched an internal competition in preparation for the Yunnan regional selection event. A total of 1,295 projects participated in the university's internal competition and 103 projects advanced to the Yunnan regional selection event.

Since its inception in 2015, the China International College Students Innovation Competition – formerly the China International Internet+ College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition – has become what is regarded as the most widely covered, comprehensive and influential innovation competition in China.

The final of the national competition is scheduled to take place at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in East China's Shanghai in October.
