The opening ceremony for Yunnan University's first-year students was held on Aug 24 at Wendian Square, Chenggong Campus.
University cadres, heads of various departments, freshmen counselors, and all new students participated in the ceremony, which was presided over by Wu Jiande, deputy secretary of the CPC Yunnan University Committee.
The event began with a flag-raising ceremony, followed by the university cadres pinning Yunnan University school badges on first-year student representatives.
Ma Wenhui, deputy Party secretary and executive vice president of the university, gave a speech reflecting on the university's century-long development and expressed his hope that all first-year students would develop into young people with ideals, courage, and a strong work ethic.
Following his remarks, Zhao Shuhong, dean of the School of Business and Tourism Management of Yunnan University, delivered a speech on behalf of the faculty.
Peng Yiting, a Chinese Language and Literature major from the School of Chinese Language and Literature, spoke on behalf of the undergraduate students. Sun Mingze, a graduate student in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning from the National Pilot School of Software, represented the graduate students.
Daoming Si, an Iranian undergraduate enrolled in the School of International Chinese Language Education, spoke on behalf of the international students.
