YNU associate researcher wins Chimelong Award

Hu Jingyang from Yunnan University was honored with the Qihang category of the Chimelong Award due to his exceptional research potential at the recent 19th Member Representative Conference.

Established by the China Zoological Society and the Chimelong Charity Foundation, the Chimelong Award aims to recognize China's sci-tech workers who have made significant contributions in the field of zoological science and technological innovation.

As an associate researcher at the State Key Laboratory of Conservation and Utilization of Bio-resources in Yunnan – co-built by Yunnan University (YNU) and Ministry of Education, Hu focuses on the evolutionary and conservation genetics of the endangered pangolin.

In recent years, Hu has published 14 papers in top international journals, and his research has been cited by prestigious publications such as Science, Nature Microbiology, and Systematic Biology, and included on Wikipedia.

He co-authored the A collective statement in support of saving pangolins with 65 international colleagues from over 20 countries and regions in 2023. He also contributed to the Zoological Systematics and Evolution Protocol eBook and has been invited to speak at major international conferences, including the second AsiaEvo Conference and the first Northeast Asia Biodiversity International Symposium.

His work has garnered attention and coverage from over 40 mainstream media outlets across more than 10 countries and regions, including The New York Times, CNN, CCTV, and People's Daily.
