Ma Wenhui was appointed as the new president of Yunnan University in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province, on Sept 9.
Yunnan University held a leadership conference at which the CPC Yunnan Provincial Committee announced its decision on the appointment of the university's president.
In his inauguration speech, Ma expressed his commitment to taking responsibility and carrying forward the fine traditions established by past university presidents.
Ma emphasized his determination to continuously advance the university's comprehensive reforms and make breakthroughs in its Double First-Class Construction initiative, ensuring the university's high-quality development.
The World First-Class Universities and First-Class Academic Disciplines Construction is collectively known as Double First-Class Construction. It is a higher education development and sponsorship scheme initiated by the Chinese central government in 2015. There are 147 universities and colleges currently selected to participate in the program.
