The International Chinese Language Education School at Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – hosted more than 50 students from a raft of countries in August.

YNU welcomed 54 undergraduate students from 15 countries: Thailand, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Nepal, Bangladesh, Russia, Iran, Turkiye, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Nigeria, Congo (Brazzaville) and Madagascar.

To help them acclimate to campus life and lay the groundwork for their studies, the institute held a faculty meeting on Aug 21 to discuss the new semester's teaching strategies.

A new student orientation was organized by the Chinese Language Research Office to guide the young men and women.

On Aug 28, the university's student affairs department provided information on immigration laws, international regulations and the university's management policies for the folks – ensuring they were well-informed about available services.

The following day, faculty members from the academic affairs office introduced them to the YNU's teaching management regulations and demonstrated how to utilize the academic management and course selection systems.

On Aug 27, a session providing an overview of the institute, and its curriculum and looking at the importance of engaging with local culture was given to the international students.

On Sept 14, they visited the university's history museum, where volunteers shared insights into Yunnan's cultural heritage and YNU's evolution.

Supported by various university departments, the comprehensive orientation familiarized the arrivals with their new environment and established communications channels with faculty and staff members.

The institute is said to be committed to fostering a vibrant, multicultural learning atmosphere – empowering international students on their new journey in China.
