2024 Yunnan University Sports & Culture Festival opens

The 2024 Yunnan University Sports and Culture Festival was held from Nov 21 to 23 at the East Gate Sports Center Track and Field Stadium on the Chenggong campus. The opening ceremony was attended by university cadres, faculty members, and student representatives from various schools and departments.

During the opening ceremony, flag-bearing formations for the national flag, university flag, festival emblem, and delegations from each school and faculty entered the stadium in sequence. The participants marched with precision and enthusiasm, showcasing their distinctive banners, props, and vibrant spirit and highlighting the unique characteristics of their respective schools.

In his speech, Ma Wenhui, the university president, declared the festival open. He encouraged students to enthusiastically embrace physical activity, learning, and life and strive for well-rounded development in morals, intellect, physique, aesthetics, and labor. He also urged them to embody the confidence, optimism, and friendly demeanor of China's younger generation.

The ceremony featured captivating group performances that enriched the cultural atmosphere of the event.

The festival included three main events: a track and field meet, a fire-safety sports meet for faculty and students, and a fun sports meet for faculty and staff members. The activities aimed to promote "unity, friendship, communication, and competition", advance the university's sports culture, and enhance physical health across the campus community.
