Yunnan University and University of Malaya to open joint college

The University of Malaya in Malaysia and Yunnan University recently signed an agreement to jointly establish the Yunnan University-University of Malaya Joint College, marking a new chapter in international education, research, and youth exchange cooperation.

The college, to be established at Yunnan University, has received approval from China's Ministry of Education and is expected to begin enrolling students later this year.

The college aims to cultivate urgently needed talent in artificial intelligence, new materials, new energy, and biomedicine to support Belt and Road cooperation and regional socio-economic development.

The University of Malaya is Malaysia's top-ranked university, ranking 60th in the 2025 QS World University Rankings. Yunnan University is a nationally recognized first-class university in Southwest China's Yunnan province.

The Yunnan University-University of Malaya Joint College will focus on training globally minded, innovative talent, contributing to Yunnan University's role in advancing China's strategic outreach to South and Southeast Asia.
