Yunnan University expands cooperation with Bangladeshi universities

Yunnan University has expanded its cooperation with Bangladeshi universities from language education to regional studies, agricultural technology, ecological research, and talent development.

Since establishing its center for Bangladesh studies in 2012, the university has worked with institutions, including the University of Dhaka and North South University, to build research and cultural exchange platforms.

Agricultural cooperation has delivered strong results. Perennial rice developed by Yunnan University has undergone trial planting in Bangladesh since 2019, and 2025 tests showed it outperformed high-yield local varieties. Researchers from both countries have also collaborated on water resources and wetland ecology.

In 2018, Yunnan University launched the South and Southeast Asian University Network, which now comprises 128 universities from 16 countries, including 10 institutions in Bangladesh.

The university has trained nearly 1,000 Bangladeshi students over the past decade. In June 2026, it signed agreements or memorandums of understanding with three Bangladeshi universities, further strengthening academic exchanges and talent development.
