History

In 1960, Yunnan University worked to establish a correspondence university affiliated to Yunnan University and started to provide adult higher education to in-service staff. In 1980, the affiliated university changed its name to Yunnan University correspondence department. In 1993, Yunnan University's continuing education school was formally established. In 2005, the continuing education school, the vocational technical institute and online education institute were merged into the Yunnan University vocational and continuing education school.

Goals

The school is working to cultivate urgently needed special and applied talents for the promotion of economic and social development of Yunnan province. It intends to help take the university to a top level in China and position it as a world-renowned regional high-level university. It hopes also to join with the university in supporting the Yunnan action program. And it will also work to build a society eager to learn from a lifelong education system.

Majors 

Yunnan University has more than 60 undergraduate and junior college majors including literature and history, science and engineering, finance and economics, politics and law, management, education, and foreign languages, and has set up more than 20 correspondence schools in Yunnan province. It has also advanced cross-border education projects in Southeastern countries such as Myanmar and Thailand. In May 2000, the Ministry of Education established a national key teacher training base at the university which undertakes training tasks for full-time undergraduate and vocational college teachers. The base allows those teachers to pursue on-the-job master's degrees. It also provides teacher training for secondary vocational school staff at national and provincial levels. The university's full-time undergraduate vocational education program currently has six majors including computer science and technology, applied electronics education, Chinese language and literature, marketing, financial accountancy, tourism service and management education.

The school has four postgraduate majors, namely pedagogy, vocational and technical education, education technology and educational law and more than forty full-time postgraduate students.

It also set up a vocational training center in Myanmar to teach Chinese culture and vocational skills.

Faculty

There are 66 staff in the school of whom eight are professors, 21 are associate professors and 10 hold doctoral degrees.

Internationalization

With the school's involvement cross-border education was realized in Southeastern Asian countries such as Myanmar and Thailand.

Among other steps, the school set up a vocational training center in Myanmar.
