The School of Government at Yunnan University -- whose main campuses are in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province -- was the former School of Public Administration, which was established on the basis of the former Department of Politics and Public Administration in July 1999. It is one of the earliest public administration schools established in the country.
The school currently has two departments, namely the department of political science and the department of public administration.
Up to the end of October 2018, the school has six doctoral majors: political science theory, Chinese and foreign political systems, international politics, national politics and public administration, scientific socialism and the history of international communism.
It offers 11 master's degree programs: political science theory, Chinese and foreign political systems, international politics, national politics and public administration, scientific socialism and the history of international communism, administrative management, educational economy and management, social security, public policy, urban management and a Master of Public Administration or MPA program).
It also has three undergraduate majors: politics and administration, public administration, and public affairs administration. Among them, politics and administration and public administration are national-level characteristic construction majors and provincial-level key majors.
There are 54 faculty members by the end of July, 2018, among whom 11 are professors and 18 are associate professors. It has three renowned teachers in Yunnan province, three social science experts who have made outstanding contributions to Yunnan province, as well as two academic innovation teams in the province. It has also appointed Professor Liu Guoli from the College of Charleston in the United States as a part-time professor.
Over the years, the school’s undergraduate employment rate has remained above 98 percent and the postgraduate admission rate has remained above 25 percent, ranking among the top at the university. The employment rate for postgraduates has remained above 96 percent. The employment rate of doctoral students remains at 100 percent.
