Jointly hosted by the Youth League Committee of Yunnan University (YNU) and the School of Earth Sciences of YNU, the eighth "Earth Week" series of activities kicked off at the Chenggong campus of YNU on March 23.

It was a part of the university's "YNU in Four Seasons" event series, which is hosted by the Youth League Committee and YNU's schools.

In spring, science-themed activities will be held to cultivate students' spirit of exploration; in summer, art-themed activities will be held to promote students' creativity; in autumn, service-thought-themed activities will be held, and in winter, sports activities will be organized to encourage students to strengthen their physical fitness level.

YNU officials said that the activities are designed to cultivate students' team spirit, sense of responsibility, patriotism and more.

Tan Shucheng, dean of the School of Earth Sciences, announced the opening of the event, calling on teachers and students to take part in building a beautiful home.

During Earth Week, seven activities were organized, including a meteorological day event, a photography competition, a geography knowledge competition, the Earth Hour "lights-off" event and an environmental protection clothing design contest.
