YNU joins in Belt and Road Initiative research

Updated: Apr 8, 2024

To better implement the Science and Technology Innovation Action Plan of the Belt and Road Initiative, Lan Yujie, deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, led a team to conduct research at universities and research institutes in Yunnan from March 27 to 29.

The research team conducted on-site inspections at seven research institutes, including the Yunnan Key Laboratory of Biodiversity Conservation and Utilization of Biological Resources at Yunnan University. The team also exchanged views on basic research achievements, international scientific research cooperation, and international talent cultivation with the experts and scholars of these institutes.

Lan also chaired a symposium in Yunnan on March 29. Fang Jingyun, president of Yunnan University, attended the symposium and delivered a speech.

Some cadres and experts from Yunnan University, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as well as the Chinese Academy of Science's Kunming Institute of Botany and Kunming Institute of Zoology attended the event. They introduced their cooperation efforts with ASEAN and South Asian countries, as well as their efforts on attracting international scientific research talents.

Subsequently, Lan affirmed the important contributions of Yunnan universities and research institutes in safeguarding both national food security and energy security.

He also urged them to efficiently utilize Yunnan’s abundant mineral resources and rich biodiversity; focus more on biodiversity, energy resources, food security, and sustainable development; and promote Yunnan's sci-tech cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
