Yunnan University examines German PhD studies, scholarships

A seminar called PhD Studies and Scholarships in Germany was held on May 14 at the Chenggong Campus of Yunnan University, or YNU – located in Kunming, capital of Southwest China's Yunnan province – with over 80 students attending and engaging in lively discussions.

The event was jointly organized by the DAAD-Außenstelle Peking – the Beijing Office of the German Academic Exchange Center – and the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Yunnan University.

To broaden the horizons of its students, Yunnan University invited senior officials from the DAAD academic body responsible for research promotion and scholarship programs in Germany, representatives from the University of Cologne/China-NRW University Alliance Beijing Office and the head of the University of Bayreuth's Shanghai Office.

They spoke about the methods and approaches for conducting PhD research and applying for scholarships in Germany – as well as the academic programs and PhD application processes at various German universities.

This provided detailed guidance to YNU master's degree students and current PhD students who are planning to pursue doctoral studies in Germany.

DAAD is a non-profit organization serving as the executive agency for Germany's international cultural and higher education exchanges. It also acts as a consortium of German higher education institutions.

Moreover, the body is also dedicated to promoting student and faculty exchange programs and international collaborative research projects between universities in Germany and universities in other countries.
